Science of Memory
Course Overview

Our memories are not a truthful record of events. Instead, our memories are often fuzzy or incomplete. Memories can also be malleable – they change each time we recall them. How do we make sense of our experiences and decide what gets retained in memory? How is memory processing supported by the brain? We will learn how the science of memory applies in real world settings and in everyday life to shape our experiences and our sense of who we are.
By the end of this course, a student will have learned the basic principles underlying the science of memory. They will know the different types of memory and be able to identify examples of them in their own lives. Students will understand that memories are not an accurate record of our lives and learn about the multiple factors that influence how memories can be altered or enhanced in different situations.
