Media Literacy and Online Movements

Course Overview

media literacy and online movements
Is social media a tool for social progress or a source of misinformation? Develop the crucial skill of finding the truth amid the noise. As social justice movements increasingly rely on online platforms, the digital landscape has become both vital and notoriously "toxic" and "addictive."

This course dives into the complex relationship between activism and algorithms. Through critical readings and sharp discussions, you will explore how social media and social justice have become intertwined, for better and for worse.

More importantly, we will analyze the strategies used to share information, the forces that amplify or silence certain voices, and the ethical responsibility of being an informed participant.

Coursework includes: writing assignments, engaging in-class presentations, and critical readings.

You will leave with useful skills required in college, such as critical, experience writing a college-level paper, and reading to create engaging questions.
