Health Care Challenges in the 21st Century
Course Overview
The US faces major health challenges – a growing crisis in mental health, rising health care costs, achieving equal access to health care services, preparing for a future pandemic, the aging of the population and increasing prevalence of chronic conditions among younger populations. This course will review the experiences with and repercussions from the pandemic and the rise in mental health issues among their peers and failures in the health care system to address mental health issues manifest through events, such as shootings and an increase in the homeless population with mental illness. In addition, we will discuss health equity issues and why certain populations are not well-served under current arrangements.
