Course Overview

What happens in the first years of life that sets the stage for us to become such complex adults? The major goal of this course is to examine children’s development from infancy through young adulthood. We will explore two major questions throughout this course. First, how do children develop the knowledge, skills, and personality characteristics that allow them to become successful adults? Second, how do differences among children come about? We will dive deep into these questions through developmental theory and experimental evidence.
By the end of this course, students will:
• Be able to summarize core concepts in developmental psychology theory and methods
• Read, interpret, and discuss child development research with various methodology
• Create a social media post informing a selected population (e.g., teachers, parents) about a developmental concept and how they can support its development
