Biotechnology: Biology Remixed
Course Overview

Biotechnology remixes natural biological processes to produce creative solutions for complex issues in medicine, agriculture, and industry. Potential topics we will explore are drug discovery, gene editing, and food engineering. Our ability to manipulate biology can solve many of society’s challenges, but the rapid pace of innovation brings a host of unintended consequences. We will engage in balanced discussion to understand these legal, economic, and social implications.
Course objectives:
1. Students will be able to describe foundational principles of molecular biology.
2. Students will apply foundational principles to understand complex biotechnologies.
3. Students will propose a biotechnological solution for a chosen problem.
