Astrophysics: Data, Models, and Discovery

Course Overview

This course will provide a hands-on exploration of modern astrophysics. We will analyze real telescope observations (and maybe take our own if the weather is cooperative), explore astronomical databases, and build computer models to investigate questions about planets, stars, galaxies, and the expanding universe. Students will even design and complete their own mini-research project, applying the same methods astrophysicists use to turn data into discovery. Along the way, participants will develop practical skills in coding, data analysis, and scientific reasoning that provide a strong foundation for future study or undergraduate research in any STEM field.
